British Transport Police (BTP) is recruiting Police Officers across the South West & Midlands through its Police Constable Entry Programme (PCEP).

As a Police Officer, you will play a vital role in keeping millions of passengers, railway staff, and the public safe on one of the world's busiest transport networks. Your actions will matter, providing opportunities to protect, support, and positively impact the communities served.

What You'll Do

No two days are the same. You could be supporting vulnerable individuals, responding to emergencies, investigating crime, safeguarding children, disrupting criminal activity, or reassuring people during difficult times.

What You'll Get in Return

  • Competitive Pay: Starting salary of £33,609, rising year-on-year to £52,014 after five years.
  • Allowances: Milton Keynes attracts a South East Allowance of £3,105.00.
  • Travel Benefits: Oyster card for personal and professional use.
  • Annual Leave: 25 days, increasing with service.
  • Pension: A highly competitive Career Average Revalued Earnings (CARE) pension scheme.
  • Incentives: Voucher and incentive schemes, including cycle-to-work and retail discounts.
  • Development: Continued investment in learning, supported by dedicated in-house talent and development teams, with clear promotion and career development opportunities.
  • Wellbeing: Specialist support from Occupational Health and wellbeing services, free eyesight tests, and eligibility for the Blue Light Card.
  • Other Benefits: Membership of the Police Federation from day one, strong support for work-life balance, including 26 weeks of fully paid maternity leave, paternity leave, carers' leave, adoption leave, and special leave provisions.

What We're Looking For

Previous policing experience is not required. BTP welcomes applications from people of all backgrounds and experiences. What matters most is integrity, commitment to helping others, and a willingness to learn. Key qualities include:

  • Strong communication skills
  • Sound judgement and problem-solving ability
  • Empathy and emotional resilience
  • The ability to build trust and remain calm under pressure

Entry Requirements

To be eligible, you must have:

  • Level 2 Qualifications: In English Language and Maths (GCSE Grade C/4 or above, or accepted equivalent), or be willing to undertake BTP's assessment.
  • Level 3 or Work Experience: A Level 3 qualification (e.g., two A-levels at grade E or above, BTEC Level 3, T Levels, IB) OR relevant work experience (24 months service) in areas such as the Armed Forces, emergency services, or specific railway roles.

You will not be eligible if:

  • You cannot demonstrate a Level 3 qualification or equivalent work experience.
