About the Role
Stealth Engineering Placement
This is a 12-month placement for undergraduates.
Role Description
The Stealth Engineering department assesses, manages, and reduces submarine signatures throughout the design, build, and in-service phases. The department has specialist teams focusing on vibration, airborne noise, fluid-borne noise, electromagnetics, and other non-acoustic signatures.
During this placement, you will have the opportunity to rotate through various teams, gaining experience in both test and modelling environments. You will develop a broad understanding of the Stealth discipline while working alongside experienced engineers to support the delivery of advanced submarine capability.
Core Duties
- Support noise and vibration assessments of submarine systems, equipment, and platform performance during design, build, and commissioning.
- Support test cell and specialist facility evaluations, including test rig design, test execution, data collection, and analysis of results.
- Undertake modelling and predictive analysis using engineering techniques and tools such as FEA, CFD, and SEA.
- Work with subject matter experts to provide Stealth design guidance and support the achievement of submarine signature requirements.
- Support departmental research, technology, and development programmes through participation in engineering projects and innovation activities.
The Submarine Team
Be part of designing, building, testing, and commissioning the Astute and Dreadnought Class submarines, providing a powerful and secure deterrent for the United Kingdom.
Requirements
You'll need to be on track to obtain a 2:2 Bachelor’s degree or a pass at Master’s level in Mechanical Engineering, Electrical Engineering, Control Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, Physics, Maths, or another similar STEM degree.
Important Information
Please be aware that many roles at BAE Systems are subject to security and export control restrictions. These restrictions mean that factors such as your nationality, any previous nationalities held, and your place of birth can restrict the roles you are eligible to perform. All applicants must achieve Baseline Personnel Security Standard. Many roles also require higher levels of National Security Vetting, which typically requires 5 to 10 years of continuous residency in the UK.
