About the Role

Start your career working with businesses at the forefront of innovation. You’ll help clients prepare R&D and Patent Box claims, learn how changing legislation affects them and discover the innovative projects happening behind the scenes. Along the way, you’ll develop your technical knowledge, commercial awareness and confidence working with clients.

Work in the National Innovation Incentives team involves detailed expenditure reviews, client meetings and narrative writing. You will also be exposed to a variety of industries, including automotive, construction, medical and software, and speak at length to competent professionals within these fields.

What You'll Work On

You'll work with innovative businesses of all sizes, from ambitious start-ups to global organisations, gaining exposure to cutting-edge technologies, scientific advancements and commercial innovation. You could be:

  • Exploring innovation by learning about projects such as new software, products, technologies or improved processes.
  • Meeting the people behind the ideas, including engineers, software developers, scientists and other specialists, to understand the challenges they’re solving.
  • Turning information into insight by analysing technical, financial and commercial information to identify opportunities for clients.
  • Supporting R&D and innovation claims, helping prepare reports and documentation that bring a client’s projects to life.
  • Using digital tools, data analytics and AI to analyse information, improve processes and deliver greater value to clients.
  • Working across teams, collaborating with colleagues in Tax, Audit and Advisory, both in the UK and internationally.
  • Taking ownership of projects, coordinating activities, managing deadlines and keeping client work on track.
  • Building client relationships, developing the confidence to contribute to meetings, ask questions and communicate your ideas.
  • Growing your knowledge of emerging technologies, scientific developments and the changing world of innovation.

From understanding how a new piece of software solves a problem to exploring how a business has improved a product or process, you’ll build a unique mix of analytical, commercial, technical and client-facing skills. You do not need to be a tax expert before you join. We’ll help you build your knowledge through professional study, practical client work and day-to-day support from your team.

Your Development and Benefits

  • Develop technical knowledge through funded ATT/CTA study, structured training and study leave.
  • Learn in a supportive team, with access to a buddy, mentor and colleagues who will help you settle in.
  • Put your learning into practice through real client work and see how your contribution supports clear and valuable outcomes.
  • You will benefit from balanced study and client work with structured support, regular check-ins and practical guidance.
