About the Role

This programme is for university students who are doing well academically and want to test their skills in the real world. You’ll be on track to achieve a predicted degree classification of 2:1 or above in any discipline. You must also be in the penultimate year of your course.

What the team does

Our Tax Consulting business provides companies with tax advisory and compliance services, as well as transaction advice. We help our clients make the right decisions on all aspects of their tax with regards to their investments.

You’ll have the opportunity to work within one of the following teams:

Business Tax

It’s our job to help our clients understand and manage complex tax matters. Whichever business tax team you join, you will be given the opportunity to work closely with clients across all industries, on every aspect of their corporate tax affairs, solving their most complex challenges.

Global Investment & Innovation Incentives (Gi3)

Our Innovation Tax team and Tax Depreciation team help companies access funding and tax relief relating to Research and Development, patents and capital investment in real estate.

What kind of work will I do?

Join our student programme within Tax Consulting and you’ll get to work on the tax affairs of many companies across a range of industry sectors.

We work with many of the world’s largest and most influential businesses, from tech start-ups to public sector bodies; from FTSE 100 and Global 2000 multinational groups to charities. We’re sure you’ll recognise their names!

We also work with private clients of high net worth, including business owners, private equity firms or international clients.

A role with us will involve a mix of reporting and advisory work. One day you could be researching and writing about tax-related topics, the next getting involved in pricing or deals. The diverse nature of our work means you may be advising the manager of a mobility programme or helping a business deal with tax authorities. Often, our clients and colleagues will work overseas.

Where will I work?

At Deloitte we recognise how important face-to-face interaction is for your development in a new role. We also understand that our people need flexibility, which is why we operate a hybrid system, with a combination of office and home working. If you’re in a client-facing role, you might be expected to attend client sites on certain days, while your meetings will be a mix of online and in-person events. Please note your final assessment and induction will also be in-person, to give you the opportunity to network and build relationships.

All our workspaces are accessible, however, if you require further flexibility due to a health condition or caring responsibilities, please discuss this with our team.

How will I develop?

We want our people to have world-class practical experience coupled with the technical rigour and knowledge that comes from the right professional qualification.

We think the best experience is being immersed in client work, working alongside other team members, and learning the practical skills that will set you up for a successful career. That will be the initial focus whether you are a Graduate, an Industrial Placement, or a BrightStart, supported by internal training and support from coaches, people leaders, and your team.

We think this is vital and will set you up for success when we further support your development with a professional qualification, recognising that different roles across our business align to different pathways. These may include options such as joint or accelerated programmes leading to qualifications like Association of Taxation Technicians (ATT), Associate Chartered Accountant (ACA), Institute of Chartered Accountants of Scotland (ICAS) or Chartered Tax Adviser (CTA), as well as other more specialist routes focused on tax or technical expertise.

Visa Sponsorship

We’re not able to provide sponsorship for this programme. If you are currently on a student visa and would require sponsorship to join Deloitte after graduation, we’re unable to accept your application to this role, as the salary for the Graduate conversion role in this location does not currently meet the minimum threshold required under the Immigration Rules for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship. Please apply instead for an Industrial placement in London, Aberdeen, Bristol, Cambridge, Reading, Gatwick or Southampton, where available. In these locations, the Graduate conversion roles meet the relevant salary threshold, and we are able to sponsor Skilled Worker visas.
