TL;DR

Key Takeaways

  • Gain hands-on engineering experience in AI, Digital, and Zero Fuel Burn Testing.
  • Year-long industrial placement starting Summer 2027.
  • Requires 3 days onsite per week in Daventry.
  • Open to students studying STEM degrees, typically halfway through their program.

About the Role

This year-long industrial placement offers an opportunity to gain hands-on engineering experience, working at the intersection of advanced digital technologies and sustainable internal combustion engine system development. You will contribute to projects that enhance engineering efficiency through AI/Digital tools and accelerate mechanical validation of components using innovative rig testing methods to replicate engine running conditions without burning fuel in an engine test cell.

You will work on different sub-systems of the engine and interact with a wide range of global and local cross-functional groups and departments to co-ordinate project delivery.

During your placement, you will learn how a major global organization operates, gaining the tools and exposure you will need to become an expert in the industry.

Requirements:

  • You must be onsite for 3 days per week. You will need to be able to travel or relocate to the location on your own behalf.
  • This role is available to candidates who qualify for a placement year.
  • The placement will commence in Summer 2027.

Key Responsibilities

  • Support AI & Digital Engineering Tool Development: Assist in designing, testing, and deploying digital and AI-oriented tools to optimise engine sub-system component design, investigation, testing and project/resource management.
  • Contribute to Zero Fuel Burn Testing Component Validation: Participate in the design, setup, execution, and monitoring of advanced component rig validation tests aimed at reducing the time required in an engine test cell & fuel burn.
  • Data Evaluation & Reporting: Collect, process, and investigate experimental and simulation data, preparing clear technical reports and visualisations to support engineering decision-making.

What You'll Need

  • Studying towards an Engineering, Mathematics, Physics or other related STEM degree. Preference for Mechanical, Aerospace, Motorsport or other suitably related Engineering discipline, typically halfway through the program.
  • Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively in technical teams and communicate effectively in written and verbal formats.
  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, with ability to interpret technical data.
  • Interest in internal combustion engines and their operation.
  • Familiarity with using AI and digital tools to help complete engineering-related tasks.
  • Prior exposure to engine testing, propulsion systems, or sustainable energy technologies through coursework, projects, or internships.
