About the Role

About the Scheme

Our placement scheme offers you the chance to experience the daily life of a trainee at Addleshaw Goddard. You will be immersed in the firm and its culture, joining a department and engaging in real, trainee-level work for clients. From day one, you will be supported by an experienced solicitor who supervises your work and a trainee buddy to help you settle in. You will also participate in information sessions with teams across the firm, group exercises, and assessments to gain a comprehensive understanding of our work.

Our planned social events provide an opportunity to connect with trainees and colleagues outside of work, showcasing the people and culture that make this a great place to build your career.

Everyone who secures a place on the scheme will automatically be considered for a training contract, commencing in September 2029, in the office you applied to. Please note that the location of your training contract cannot be changed later. We encourage you to be certain of your preferred location before applying and to apply to the office where you genuinely wish to train.

London Placement Scheme Dates:

  • Easter: Monday 5th - Friday 9th April 2027
  • Summer: Monday 7th - 18th June 2027

Who We Are Looking For?

We are seeking authentic individuals who are ambitious, curious, and genuinely committed to becoming great lawyers. We value diverse perspectives, experiences, and ideas, and our success depends on recruiting talented people from a wide range of backgrounds.

What unites successful candidates is a strong drive to learn, collaborate closely with colleagues and clients, and produce work they can be proud of. If you enjoy problem-solving, relationship-building, and taking ownership, this is a place where you can grow.

Eligibility:

  • Penultimate year of a law degree.
  • Final year of a non-law degree, or beyond.
  • On track for (or have already achieved) a 2:1 or above.
  • We also welcome applications from candidates with a 2:2 with mitigating circumstances.

Training Contract

If offered a training contract following a successful placement scheme, your two-year contract will consist of four six-month seats across the following groups:

  • Corporate & Commercial
  • Disputes
  • Finance & Projects
  • Real Estate

You will receive tailored training, gain first-hand insight into life at Addleshaw Goddard, and be supported by talented colleagues. You will be challenged with meaningful work and given the space to stay curious, learn, and build the connections and skills needed to become a trusted lawyer.

International Applicants and Sponsorship

We welcome applications from candidates globally and do not base recruitment decisions on an applicant's current location or immigration status. However, this Placement Scheme/Training Contract role in Edinburgh/Glasgow does not currently meet the Home Office requirements for a Skilled Worker visa, and we may not be able to sponsor visas for these roles at the point of hire. If we are unable to sponsor you at the point of hire, but you have undertaken further education studies funded by Addleshaw Goddard (e.g. PGDL, Diploma or SQE course, maintenance fees, and interest-free loan), you will be required to repay the full amount to the firm. For specific queries, please email earlycareers@addleshawgoddard.com. We recommend seeking independent advice if you do not have the right to work in the UK.

Use of AI

We are happy for you to use AI tools thoughtfully for research, brainstorming, and checking spelling, grammar, and clarity. Please do not use AI to write your answers, invent or exaggerate experience, or complete online tests. We want to hear your genuine voice.
