Arcadis is seeking a Civil Engineer for a 12-month work placement.
What You'll Be Doing
As a placement student, you will be supported and mentored while contributing to civil engineering projects across highways, rail, energy, and water sectors. You will work with diverse, multidisciplinary teams on projects ranging from local schemes to major international developments.
Key responsibilities include:
- Designing new infrastructure and assessing existing assets for repair or reuse using advanced software and digital tools.
- Gaining hands-on experience across sectors, applying knowledge to real-world challenges.
- Learning about project delivery models, contracts, and commercial constraints.
- Collaborating with other disciplines and attending site visits.
- Contributing to the delivery of resilient, low-carbon solutions.
Specific project examples include:
- Highways and Transportation: Designing roads, junctions, bridges, and active travel routes, including foundations, earthworks, and drainage systems using tools like Civil 3D, OpenRoads, and BIM.
- Water Management: Working on waste and clean water infrastructure to deliver sustainable solutions and ensure water supply resilience.
- Rail: Designing and delivering infrastructure for the railway network, including station infrastructure, bridges, and utility crossings, adhering to strict rail standards.
Some site visits and inspections will be involved.
Qualifications & Experience
- Working towards a degree in a relevant subject (Placement & Intern only).
- For Highways and Transportation, and Water roles: BEng or MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- For Rail roles: Must be working towards an MEng in Civil or Structural Engineering.
- Demonstrate Arcadis skills: Resilience, Creativity, Analytical Thinking, and Team Player.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to influence stakeholders.
- Willing to travel and stay away from home when required.
- Comfortable with site-based working.
