Programme Description
This is a three-year Manufacturing Apprenticeship providing a wealth of learning and development opportunities, including an NC in Engineering, SVQ level 2 (PEO), and SVQ L3 - Diploma in Engineering. You will work with world-leading specialists to increase your technical skills and develop your academic and practical understanding of the manufacturing lifecycle.
Key Responsibility Areas
Years 1 and 2:
- First five months: Attend college full-time to complete an SVQ Level 2.
- On-site: Undertake rotational placements in areas such as Mechanical Assembly, Electromechanical Assembly, Electro Optic Assembly, Environmental Facility, Logistics, Manufacturing Engineering, Machine Shop, and Repairs. You will learn to build and test industry-leading radar and laser systems and understand material flow and supply chain efficiency.
Year 3:
- Undertake a final placement with more focused on-the-job training in a specific discipline.
- Upon successful completion, you will achieve an NC Engineering and an EAL Diploma in Engineering SCQF Level 7.
Skills, Qualifications & Knowledge Required
Minimum academic qualifications:
- 4 National 5 (A-C) or equivalent.
- Mandatory: Mathematics & English.
- Two additional subjects, preferably technological subjects (e.g., Graphic Communication, Product Design, Craft & Design, Tech Studies, Computing, Woodwork, Metalwork).
Note: This apprenticeship assumes little prior engineering knowledge and is not suitable for candidates who already have an NC/Foundation Apprenticeship in technical/engineering.
Salary
- £20,000 per year.
Security Clearance
Many roles at Leonardo are subject to security and export control restrictions. Successful applicants will be asked to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK, criminal record declaration, and employment/education history verification for the previous five years. Additional National Security Vetting (NSV) may apply for more sensitive posts, with specific residency requirements.
