About the Role
This is a 12.5-month full-time internship at Airbus in Filton, Bristol, starting on 16 August 2027.
About Landing Gear Engineering
Landing Gear Engineering is a crucial part of Airbus Commercial, focusing on the definition, integration, industrialisation, and in-service support of landing gear systems. This area involves complex aerospace engineering, including control systems, mechanical systems, and structures, integrated into the overall aircraft design for take-off, landing, and taxiing.
Activities span across major aircraft programmes like the A350XWB, A320 family, A330 family, and A380, with a significant focus on Research & Technology (R&T) for future aircraft development. The team is embracing digital technology and data science to enhance their work.
Key responsibilities include:
- Defining landing systems and managing vendors for new programmes and ongoing developments.
- Providing product support for industrialisation, production, and in-service phases.
- Executing product, technology, and innovation strategies for landing gear R&T.
What You Will Be Doing
You will have the opportunity to work with experienced teams across the Airbus aircraft family, from new developments to in-service aircraft. You may also collaborate with suppliers, customers, and manufacturing assembly.
Your responsibilities will include:
- Contributing to the creation of optimum solutions for the landing gear product.
- Owning projects where possible and supporting ongoing activities.
- Joining the early careers community for professional development and integration into Bristol.
As an intern, your tasks may involve:
- Consulting with experts on system and equipment design validation and verification, defining requirements, and preparing for testing using models, simulations, and test rigs.
- Developing relationships with in-service and production teams to investigate component stress and provide feedback to the Final Assembly Line for efficiency improvements.
- Building collective knowledge, problem-solving, reporting findings, and presenting progress and results to stakeholders, fostering teamwork across functions and sites.
Your work will be tailored based on your experience, interests, and development needs.
Requirements
- You must be an undergraduate for the entire duration of the placement.
- Your application should include a CV and a Cover Letter.
- Relevant areas of study include Aerospace, Mechanical, Systems and Mechatronics, Mathematics, Physics, Computer Science, Data Science, and Analytics engineering degrees.
We are looking for candidates who are:
- Inquisitive with good problem-solving skills.
- Committed, proactive, and willing to take ownership.
- Open to learning from mistakes and feedback.
- Tenacious, resilient, and persistent.
- Able to work autonomously and as part of a team.
Desirable skills include experience with Computer-Aided Design (e.g., CATIA), modelling tools (e.g., ADAMS, Matlab Simulink, Fluent), and programming languages (Python, R, C/C++, Java, Javascript).
