About the Role

Leonardo is seeking industrial placement students to gain hands-on experience working on real-world projects. The Industrial Placement Programme offers a year-long opportunity to work on meaningful projects within multidisciplinary teams, applying studies in a practical setting and developing technical skills.

What you will do

As an Industrial Placement Electronics Engineer, you will support the design and development of electro-optical, communications, and information system products. You will learn to use state-of-the-art methods, technology, and tools across the development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, testing, and product support. You will interface with customers and collaborate with engineers from other disciplines (Mechanical, Software, Systems, Supportability, and Design Integrity).

Specific areas of involvement may include:

  • Designing mixed-signal circuits, power supplies, DAC/ADC, FPGAs, and high-speed serial interfaces.
  • Working with video/communication processing algorithms.
  • Engaging with technologies across diverse products such as Thermal Imaging Cameras, Vehicle Camera systems, Counter UAV systems, Electronic Warfare products, and Communication Systems.
  • Developing expertise in circuit and FPGA design, and subsystems at various stages of the product lifecycle.
  • Contributing to requirements capture, performance analysis, design, code, verification, validation, and supporting integration and qualification.

You will learn the skills required to become a professional Electronics Engineer, work to timescales, and contribute as a team member with guidance and support. You will undertake day-to-day engineering activities, ask for support when needed, learn from experienced team members, and contribute to engineering team decisions.

What you will bring

  • Currently studying an electronics-biased degree with modules covering digital design, analogue design, and signal processing.
  • Experience using PCB design and simulation tools is highly desirable.
