TL;DR

Key Takeaways

  • Join a 2-year graduate programme in Guidance, Control and Navigation engineering starting September 2027.
  • Earn a starting salary of £31,900 per year, plus a £3,000 joining bonus and potential company bonus.
  • Develop skills in GCN, coding, modelling, mathematics, and flight dynamics, working on complex weapon systems.
  • Requires a minimum 2:2 degree in Physics, Mathematical Sciences, Engineering, or Computing.
  • Applications close on Monday 2nd November 2026.

About the Role

This graduate programme focuses on Guidance, Control and Navigation (GCN) engineering, which is central to MBDA's missile and weapon systems. You will be involved in all stages of a product's lifecycle, from concept to service.

What you will do:

Build skills in four specialist areas:

  • Guidance: Determine trajectories for target interception.
  • Control: Design and tune autopilot algorithms for stable flight.
  • Navigation: Estimate missile state using sensor data.
  • Command and Control: Design algorithms for threat tracking, engagement planning, and mission context.

You will gain technical knowledge of complex weapon systems, from futuristic technologies to current projects. The role involves coding, modelling, mathematics, flight dynamics, and control theory, using tools like MATLAB/SIMULINK.

Specific activities may include:

  • Integrated navigation (e.g., Terrain Reference Navigation, GPS integration, Image Based Navigation).
  • Autopilot and control system design and analysis.
  • Algorithms for mid-course guidance, terminal guidance, target tracking, and selectivity.
  • Data fusion from multiple sensors (radars, seekers, IMUs).
  • Implementing AI techniques (neural networks, deep learning) for algorithm improvement.
  • Designing autonomous decision-making systems for complex missions.

You will collaborate with other engineering teams (propulsion, aerodynamics, seekers, sensors, actuators) and potentially international teams in Paris and Rome.

What we're looking for:

  • Degree qualified in Physics, Mathematical Sciences, Engineering or Computing discipline to a minimum of 2:2.

Programme Details:

  • Duration: 2-year programme
  • Start Date: September 2027
  • Working Pattern: 5 days per week on-site.
