About the Role
Our Tunnelling and Underground Structures team works on complex and high-profile underground infrastructure projects. We cover the full project lifecycle, from feasibility and concept design to detailed design and construction support, specialising in tunnels, shafts, caverns, underground stations, utility infrastructure, and major transportation systems.
We are involved in significant projects like HS2, The Woodsmith Mine, the Great Grid Partnership, and the Haweswater Aqueduct Resilience Programme (HARP). These projects offer diverse engineering challenges, including long-distance tunnels, deep shafts, underground logistics infrastructure, water conveyance tunnels, and major utility corridors. Graduates will gain exposure to innovative tunnelling methods, multidisciplinary collaboration, and the delivery of critical infrastructure.
What You'll Do
- Undertake engineering analysis, calculations, and numerical modelling, applying geotechnical, structural, and civil engineering principles to develop safe, practical, and innovative design solutions.
- Support the design and delivery of tunnels, shafts, caverns, and other underground structures, from feasibility studies through to construction support.
- Prepare technical reports, design documentation, drawings, and presentations.
- Collaborate with multidisciplinary teams (geotechnical, structural, rail, water, digital engineering).
- Gain experience on major infrastructure projects, with opportunities for site visits and construction support.
