  • Requires a minimum 2:2 Bachelor's degree in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related discipline.
  • Hybrid working, with 3-4 days per week on-site.
  • Opportunity to gain experience in RF/microwave circuit design, testing, and development of avionic sensor systems.

About the Role

Leonardo is seeking graduates to join their Graduate Scheme, working on real-world projects and contributing to innovation, technology advancement, and global safety. The 18-month programme offers development opportunities in virtual and applied environments, with challenging project work and support from subject matter experts. Graduates will receive coaching to achieve objectives and personal development goals, with support for chartership.

What You'll Do

  • Gain experience across the development lifecycle, including requirements analysis, design, implementation, integration, applied research, and testing.
  • Liaise with engineers from other disciplines (Systems, Software, Mechanical) and potentially interface with customers and end users.
  • Develop skills in microwave and RF circuit design (up to 40GHz) with mentorship, ensuring compliance with system specifications and safety standards.
  • Use simulation and modelling tools to design products like transmit/receive modules (TRMs), up/down converters, antennas, and filters.
  • Contribute to the design and development of key components in high-performance avionic sensor systems.
  • Test and assess designs in laboratories and anechoic chambers, ensuring performance in extreme environmental conditions.
  • Collaborate with cross-disciplinary teams (mechanical, systems, test, manufacture) for seamless integration.
  • Prepare technical documentation and present findings to stakeholders.
  • Contribute to technical reviews, potentially involving travel across the UK or abroad.
  • Support continuous improvement initiatives for hardware design processes.

Entry Requirements

  • Minimum of a 2:2 Bachelor’s, Integrated Master’s degree, or higher degree (MSc or PhD) in Electrical Engineering, Electronics, or a related discipline.
  • Preferred degrees: Electrical and Electronic Engineering, Communications Engineering, Engineering Physics, Mathematical Sciences, Physics and Mathematics.
  • Strong interest in microwave and RF design; familiarity with tools like CST, HFSS, ADS is desirable but not required as training will be provided.
  • Strong problem-solving abilities, excellent communication skills, and a collaborative team approach.
  • A proactive approach to learning new technologies is crucial.

Security Clearance

  • Roles are subject to UK Government Security requirements and customer obligations.
  • Successful applicants will need to provide evidence of identity, eligibility to work in the UK, criminal record declaration, and employment/education history verification for the previous five years.
  • Additional National Security Vetting (NSV) may apply for sensitive posts, with specific residency requirements for SC and DV clearance.
