About the Role
About the Scheme
Launch your career with our 2027 Finance Services Graduate Scheme.
Develop a broad understanding of Financial Services through practical experience across a range of departments. Join a supportive graduate community where you can build your network, share experiences and learn from others from day one.
About Financial Services at NFU Mutual
At NFU Mutual, we’re more than an insurance organisation. We also provide a wide range of financial services that support our customers’ financial wellbeing.
Our Financial Services teams offer tailored solutions to help customers plan for the future with confidence. This includes support with pensions, investments, protection and wealth management.
We take time to understand each customer’s circumstances and goals. By providing clear, trusted advice and high-quality service, we help them create financial plans that meet their needs, both now and in the future.
What You'll Do
On our three-year graduate scheme, you’ll gain practical experience across different areas of Financial Services. You’ll rotate through our teams and learn how we support customers, manage products and work within a regulated industry. Each placement will help you build a broad range of skills and discover where your strengths and interests lie.
Your placements may include:
- Operations team – keep things running smoothly, manage our pension, investment, and protection products from the moment a customer signs up through to policy maturity.
- Financial Advisers – really get to know our customers, helping them find the right life insurance, pension, investment and wealth management products that fit their needs.
- Governance and Risk – make sure everything runs efficiently and safely, implementing smart processes and keeping us on track with regulatory guidelines.
You’ll be based in Stratford-upon-Avon, with hybrid working depending on business needs. Regular office time will help you collaborate with your team and learn from experienced colleagues.
This is a three-year programme. Please note this role is not eligible for Skilled Worker visa sponsorship, as it does not fulfil the current sponsorship criteria set by the Home Office (although these criteria change from time to time). Candidates must have, or be able to obtain, permission to work in the UK in a way that enables them to undertake the role and complete the programme.
What You Can Expect
During your first year, you’ll spend time with our Head Office teams. You’ll learn about our customers, products and processes. You’ll also build your confidence in handling customer enquiries.
You’ll gain experience outside Head Office too. This may include:
- Supporting our Sales Managers with lead generation
- Spending time in one of our local branches
- Shadowing a Financial Adviser and learn more about the role.
Some travel will be required during your first year.
As you progress through the scheme, you’ll work across different departments. This will help you understand our Financial Services strategy and how each team contributes to it.
In your final year, you’ll move into a Non-Advised Sales Consultant role. You’ll contact existing customers to discuss our Financial Services products. This role will help you develop your sales skills, customer communication skills and deepen your product knowledge. This is fantastic foundation if you’re interested in becoming a Financial Adviser.
You’ll also have opportunities to support projects across our Agency Network. These may involve changes to regulations, systems or processes.
We’ll support your career development throughout the scheme with a structured plan, performance reviews twice a year, and the potential for competitive salary increases and progression. You’ll receive support as you work towards your Diploma in Financial Planning, ensuring you’re fully equipped for your career ahead.
Application Process
If your application is shortlisted, there are three stages:
- Online assessment – to help us understand how you learn and solve problems.
- Video interview – a short interview to learn more about you.
- Assessment centre – an in-person day where you’ll take part in activities such as a group exercise, a role-specific tack and a skills-based interview.
The assessment centres will be held at our Head Office Stratford Upon Avon, Warwickshire on Tuesday 1st and Wednesday 2nd December 2026.
Your Future
This scheme is designed to support you as you work towards your Diploma in Financial Planning. You’ll also work towards relevant Chartered Insurance Institute (CII) qualifications, building the core insurance knowledge and practical skills you need for a successful career in Financial Services.
You’ll be supported by experienced colleagues, a dedicated buddy and a mentor who will help you maximise your development and career opportunities. You’ll also be part of a strong graduate community, with opportunities to connect with current and former graduates, build your network and learn from others on similar schemes.
As you come towards the end of the scheme, a careers coach will help you think about your next role and plan your next steps.
It’s not all about work either. We encourage our graduates to get involved in extracurricular activities, from volunteering and organising charity or social events to representing NFU Mutual at industry events, all in line with our Environmental, Social, and Governance (ESG) framework.
What We're Looking For
Qualifications and Skills
You'll need to have achieved, or be on track for, at least a 2:2 degree. While your degree doesn’t need to be in a specific subject, we do prefer candidates who thrive in a target-driven environment and approach work with a positive attitude.
More importantly, we’re looking for individuals with a passion for learning, curiosity, and the potential to grow.
To help you succeed on the scheme, you’ll bring:
- Relationship-building skills – sharing information clearly and building strong working relationships.
- Strong communication and active listening skills – sharing information clearly and taking time to understand different needs.
- Adaptability and resilience – staying positive and adjusting your approach when priorities or situations change.
- Teamwork and collaboration – working with others, sharing ideas and contributing towards common goals
- Time management and organisational skills – planning your work and managing deadlines.
- Initiative and self-management skills – taking ownership and looking for ways to learn and improve.
If you can bring these qualities, we can help you develop the rest.
Work Experience
Industry experience or a placement year during your degree would be a real advantage, but it isn’t essential. What matters most is that you’ve had some experience of work where you’ve been able to interact with people, build your communication skills and learn how to work well with others.
