About the Role

Launch Your Finance Career with Real Impact

Whether you're interested in understanding business performance, supporting major investment decisions, managing financial risk, or helping shape business strategy, you'll develop professional expertise while contributing to the delivery of SSE's ambitious growth plans and the UK's electricity future.

What is the Role?

SSE is investing billions in the infrastructure, technology, and people needed to support the transition to a net-zero future. Finance plays a critical role in enabling this investment, providing the insight, governance, and decision-making support that helps the business succeed.

Our Finance Graduate Programme is designed for graduates who want to build a successful career in finance while working towards becoming a Chartered Accountant. Over three years, you'll combine professional study with hands-on experience, gaining exposure to a wide range of finance disciplines and business areas across SSE.

You'll study towards the prestigious ICAS Chartered Accountancy qualification while completing rotations across a range of finance teams, which may include:

  • Financial Accounting
  • Management Accounting
  • Internal Audit
  • Treasury
  • Corporate Finance
  • Commercial Finance & Business Partnering

Alongside practical experience, you'll benefit from dedicated study support, mentoring, structured development opportunities, and support from experienced colleagues across SSE. Following successful completion of the programme, you'll be a qualified ICAS Chartered Accountant with broad experience across a FTSE 100 business and the opportunity to progress into a permanent finance role within SSE.

What We're Looking For

You'll have a minimum of a 2:1 honours degree in any degree discipline. A finance degree isn't required. We're looking for graduates with curiosity, strong analytical thinking, and a willingness to learn. Whatever your academic background, SSE will provide the professional training, practical experience, and support needed to develop your career as a Chartered Accountant. You'll likely be someone who:

  • Enjoys analysing information, solving problems, and using data to support sound business decisions.
  • Is motivated to work towards a professional accountancy qualification while balancing study with practical work experience.
  • Communicates effectively, builds positive relationships, and works collaboratively with a wide range of people.
  • Is curious, organised, and committed to learning, continuously developing new skills and knowledge.
  • Takes ownership, uses initiative, and wants to make a meaningful contribution to SSE's business and future ambitions.

SSE welcomes applications from all nationalities. Any successful candidate must be able to evidence a valid right to work prior to commencement of employment. This role falls below the minimum “New Entrant” salary threshold for the Skilled Worker route and therefore does not meet the requirements to allow for sponsorship.

About SSE

SSE is helping to shape the future of electricity. A role with SSE is an opportunity to build a rewarding career and help deliver the clean power and electricity infrastructure needed across the UK and Ireland. SSE is investing £33bn in critical electricity infrastructure to 2030, including major renewable power projects and the networks needed to connect them.

Flexible Benefits

Enjoy discounts on gym memberships, discounted retail vouchers, high street shops, private healthcare, and wellbeing benefits like a free online GP and 24/7 counselling service. Benefits include interest-free loans on tech and transport season tickets, or a new bike with the Cycle to Work scheme, as well as generous family entitlements such as maternity and adoption pay, and paternity leave.

Application Information

All applications should be submitted online. The closing date for applications is Sunday 1 November 2026. SSE will be in touch after the closing date to let you know if your application will be taken further. If offered a role, you'll need to complete a criminality check and a credit check before you start work.

SSE is unable to offer visa sponsorship for this role as it does not currently meet the UK Visas and Immigration (UKVI) eligibility requirements for Skilled Worker sponsorship. Candidates must have the legal right to work full time in the UK for the duration of the Graduate Programme from September 2027 to September 2029 and beyond, without requiring sponsorship from SSE.
