What You’ll Experience
During your Nuclear Safety Emergency Preparedness Industrial Placement, you’ll gain in-depth experience within the department at a nuclear power plant. Past students have worked on safety campaigns, developed analytical methods to optimise performance, and helped to develop Emergency exercise scenarios.
You’ll learn about systems vital to Emergency Preparedness, including safety protocols, technical governance, quality assurance, analysis, communication strategies and IT systems. You’ll also collaborate with other departments to understand how a nuclear power station operates.
Your Work Location
You will be based at either our Heysham 1 or Heysham 2 Nuclear Power Station in Lancashire and you will have the opportunity to work cross-functionally with other departments, allowing you to get a comprehensive picture of how a nuclear power station is run.

To be eligible for this scheme, you need to be on track to achieve, or have already achieved, a 2:2 undergraduate or postgraduate degree in Business, Engineering or Science. A questioning attitude, good teamwork, and effective communication skills are also essential qualities we seek. You should have an interest in working in a highly regulated, safety-conscious industry with some basic knowledge of nuclear reactor design, operations and safety.
It is a requirement that those who join us have the right to work in the UK. Whilst sponsorship may be a possibility, we reserve the right in our decisions to give priority to those who already have the right to work in the UK.
