Launch Your Career in Actuarial Consulting

Aon is seeking students undertaking a year in industry as part of their degree to join our Early Careers Launch Development Programme in actuarial roles. You will develop practical actuarial and advisory skills, applying quantitative techniques to help clients understand, price and manage financial risk.

As an Actuarial Industrial Placement colleague, you will build the skills, confidence, and market knowledge needed to turn complex quantitative information into clear business insight and support better client decisions. You will learn how AI and global delivery teams can support routine calculation, allowing effort to concentrate on judgement, scenario thinking, and communication.

Aon’s Wealth Solutions: Retirement teams advise organisations on pensions, retirement programmes, and long-term financial commitments. Our actuarial consultants advise trustees and employers on defined benefit pension schemes, helping them manage financial and operational risks.

How Work is Changing

Technology, including AI-enabled tools and global delivery teams, increasingly supports routine data preparation, reconciliation, and baseline calculation. During your placement, you will learn how these tools support actuarial work and how colleagues use them to focus on validation, output checking, report drafting, and documentation. You will practise framing clear prompts, refining outputs, checking AI-supported analysis, testing assumptions, and recognising when human judgement is needed.

Your Role as an Actuarial Industrial Placement

You will work across a range of client teams, supporting colleagues who advise either the trustees responsible for pension schemes or the companies that sponsor them. You will collaborate with various client groups and gain meaningful experience while developing the technical, consulting, and professional skills needed for a future actuarial career.

What You Will Do

Actuarial and Analytical Tasks:

  • Supporting the building and running of models for pension scheme analysis, reviewing AI-supported baselines, testing scenarios, and validating outputs.
  • Assisting with funding and accounting valuations, projections, benefit calculations, data reconciliation, and pension scheme reporting.
  • Conducting data and risk analysis to identify patterns and test scenarios.
  • Learning about ways trustees and companies can manage or reduce pension scheme risks.

Client Focused Tasks:

  • Drafting clear reports, presentations, and analysis summaries.
  • Supporting project workstreams, using AI-enabled tools and working with offshore analysts.
  • Supporting senior actuaries in client meetings.
  • Contributing ideas to improve processes and digital workflows.

Potential Exposure to Specialist Areas:

  • Risk Settlement
  • Member Options
  • Analysis of mortality and other demographic factors

Your Development

You will be enrolled onto our Launch Programme, which includes:

  • Business learning: On-the-job learning with actuarial consultants and client teams.
  • Centralised learning: Aon induction, monthly webinars, business skills training, and workshops.
  • Feedback and support: Regular feedback and support from your line manager, with opportunities to take ownership of tasks.

Your Career Beyond Your Industrial Placement

This programme is designed as a potential first step towards a long-term career with Aon. Your performance may lead to an offer for our graduate programme the following year. If you return as a graduate, you will work towards qualification as a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries (IFoA).
