About the Role
About the Team
In Actuarial, we are problem solvers and strategic thinkers who use mathematical skills to measure the probability and risk of future events, helping individuals plan for the future. The Capital Market Group (CMG) team focuses on mathematically complex and programming-based actuarial and banking work, requiring high quantitative skills to solve client problems. There is a focus on research and development, with the team responsible for enhancing Deloitte’s economic scenario modelling suite, XSG.
You will also have opportunities to participate in projects with the wider life insurance team, gaining broad actuarial experience. The CMG team sits within the actuarial life insurance team, serving clients across life and general insurance, asset managers, and banks. Past projects have included mergers and acquisitions advisory, accounting transformations, and modelling the impacts of credit market risks, operations, and sustainability/climate change on insurers.
The CMG team fosters an open and friendly working environment, allowing everyone to learn from a wide range of experts.
What You'll Do
One of CMG's responsibilities is using, maintaining, and developing XSG, Deloitte’s in-house actuarial economic scenario generation software. This produces economic scenarios for clients to use in later modelling processes.
You will run and enhance XSG's tools and methodologies, with opportunities to research potential improvements to modelling approaches and write research papers. You will also deliver economic scenarios and training sessions to clients, as well as bespoke modelling adjustments. This will involve handling a variety of market data, estimating, reviewing, and validating model inputs and outputs.
CMG also supports the wider life insurance team on various projects. You may advise insurance clients on capital levels and structure, helping to optimise their internal modelling processes. Alternatively, you may support financial change programmes by identifying inefficiencies in client actuarial processes and collaborating to design and embed better ways of working and new technology/solutions.
Where You'll Work
Deloitte operates a hybrid system, combining office and home working. Client-facing roles may require office or client site attendance on certain days, with meetings being a mix of online and in-person. Your final assessment and induction will be in-person.
How You'll Develop
In September, you will attend the Analyst Induction Programme (AIP) with your peer group to learn about the company, culture, and how we work. This programme will be a mix of in-person and online learning over several weeks.
On a day-to-day basis, you will receive on-the-job training through work with actuarial colleagues and others across the firm on client and internal projects. Formal training courses and e-learning are also available to develop broader business skills.
This role offers stimulating actuarial work, consulting opportunities, a strong internal support network, and a friendly culture. We provide resources to support your journey to qualify as a Fellow of the Institute and Faculty of Actuaries, which typically takes 3 to 6 years (including 13 exams and three years of appropriate experience).
If offered a role, you will be assigned a buddy for informal support and guidance.
Skills and Qualifications
- You’ll need to have obtained or be studying towards a minimum 2:1 in a maths or finance related degree (including Chemistry, Actuarial Sciences, Finance, Physics, Economics, Engineering, and Computer Science).
- You must have graduated by September 2027 for the Autumn 2027 intake.
- An A-level (or equivalent) in Maths is encouraged but not essential.
- No prior experience is required.
- We advise showing some understanding of the insurance industry and the role of actuaries.
You would be a good fit if:
- You are enthusiastic about solving mathematical and/or coding challenges and applying logical thinking to R&D opportunities.
- You take the initiative to improve processes and analyse at a high level while delving into details.
- You are willing to work closely with and learn from other team members.
